Site Control

We continue to make good progress with respect to our site control. We have secured approximately 19,075 acres under land leases and wind easements. This represents over 60% of the total acreage our manager, National Wind, believes will be necessary to develop our 300 MW project.

We anticipate an initial development phase of 100-150 MW which could fit within the acreage already under lease. Additional leasing activity is required to connect the other lease holdings together into contiguous areas to support follow-on phases.

Our Field Specialists, Kelly Ellis and Brad Norden, continue to do an excellent job presenting the project to landowners and gaining their interest. If you would like to see more details on leasing progress, please call or visit them in our Grover Hill, Ohio office.

Transmission

NWOWE filed two 150 MW interconnection requests in February of 2009. The study process for interconnection involves three study phases: feasibility, system impact, and facility studies. The Feasibility Study has been completed for the first of these requests and that request has advanced into the System Impact Study phase. Defined cost sharing and allocations for line upgrades will be determined during the facility study process.

Wind Speeds/Studies/Met Tower

The project has two meteorological towers up which have been collecting wind data for over 23 months. The wind data collected has been in line with our expectations. We will continue to monitor and evaluate wind data as we approach the two year collection mark in May 2010.

Permitting and Environmental Studies

We have begun the permitting process for our initial phase of the project with the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) and the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio including a pre-application meeting with the OPSB.

In March of 2010, we installed bat acoustic monitors on our meteorological tower in Blue Creek Township in order to comply with Ohio Department of Natural Resources survey requirements. All of our remaining required environmental field surveys including wetlands, vegetation, and avian studies are complete as of June 2010, with the goal of submitting our permit application to the OPSB very soon.

Project Formation

In January 2009, a number of local community members became first-round investors in Northwest Ohio Wind Energy, LLC. This investment, along with co-investment from National Wind, LLC, the project's manager, provided some capital to begin the project.
